FAITH GIVES GOD THE FINAL SAY IN THE FACE OF OPPOSITIONS I
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.
Romans 4:20 NIV
Faith is giving God’s Word the final say in the face of every opposition.
Think about a police officer confronting a criminal. The officer does not arrest the criminal because he is necessarily stronger than the criminal. He stands in the authority of the government behind him. His confidence is not in his physical strength but in the authority he represents.
Abraham’s faith worked the same way. He did not waver when he considered the impossibility of having a child at his age. His confidence was not in his natural ability; his confidence was in the God who had made the promise. Romans 4:21 says: “being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
Abraham was fully persuaded—not that the circumstances were favorable, but that God was powerful enough to fulfill His Word.
We see the same faith in Joshua and Caleb in Numbers 14. While others saw giants and impossibilities, Joshua and Caleb remembered God's promise. The giants were real, but God's Word was greater. Their confidence was not in Israel's military strength but in the power and faithfulness of the God who had promised them the land.
Then, in John 11, Jesus arrived at the tomb of Lazarus. Death appeared to have the final word. But Jesus refused to enthrone death over Lazarus. Instead, He declared:“I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25 NIV)
Beloved, we are those who enforce the will of God on earth, so that God’s will will be done on earth as it is done in heaven. We live in a world filled with opposition—sickness, hardship, disappointment, lack, fear, and circumstances that may appear contrary to God's promises. Just as Abraham, we do not waver at oppositions, or give them the final say. We let God's Word have the final say.
Jesus has already declared: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
