BE ENTHRONED OVER ALL THINGS V

Shake off your dust; rise up, sit enthroned, Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains on your neck, Daughter Zion, now a captive.

Isaiah 52:2 NIV

Romans 6:16 NIV says, “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey.” Beloved, we become servants of whatever we choose to obey. We can allow our senses to rule us, or we can allow the Spirit of God to lead us. What sits on the throne of our hearts determines the direction of our lives.

This is why trials can be essential to our growth in Christ. Trials reveal what is truly ruling us. They give us an opportunity to exercise our faith, depend on God’s grace, and allow His Word to become stronger in us.

When God brought the Israelites out of Egypt, He did not take them by the shortest route. Exodus 13:17 NIV says, “When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’”

Notice what God said: “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” Trials can tempt us to look backward. But God calls us to look forward. During trials, what are we allowing to take the lead—the senses or the Spirit? To be sense-ruled leads to death, but to be Spirit-ruled is life and peace.

Are we allowing difficult circumstances to renew our minds back into captivity, or are we allowing God’s Word to renew our minds into freedom? Romans 12:2 NIV says:“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Beloved, let God be enthroned over your emotions, your circumstances, your senses, and your decisions. “ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
