HE KEEPS US FROM SIN AND DISTRESS

Keep me from any deadly sin. Only you can save me! Then I will shout and sing about your power to save.

Psalm 51:14 CEV

Beloved, God is not only able to forgive our sins; He is also able to keep us from falling into sin. In Genesis 20:6, God told Abimelech, “It was I who kept you from sinning against me.” What a powerful revelation! God can actively intervene to preserve us from what could destroy us.

If God kept Abimelech from sinning, He is certainly able to keep His own children, for He never changes. As we fellowship daily with the Holy Spirit through the Word and prayer, He strengthens us to overcome temptation, walk in obedience, and live lives that honor Him.

The Word of God, as Hebrews 4:12 states, penetrates deeply and exposes what is of the Spirit and what is of the flesh. It gives us discernment to recognize what pleases God and what does not. Prayer also keeps our spirits alert and sensitive to His leading. Jesus said,“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41 NIV)

God does not only keep us from sin; He also keeps us from distress. He directs our steps, protects us from danger, and delivers us from the traps of the enemy.

I John 5:18 NIV says, “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.”

Therefore, beloved, let us stop struggling in our own strength. Our preservation is not found in human effort but in our daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit through God’s Word and prayer.

The God who forgives you is also able to keep you. Trust Him, walk with Him, and depend on His grace every day.
