HIS RIGHT HAND POWER UPHOLDS US
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.
Psalms 40:2 NKJV
OUR new life in Christ is established, secured in the spirit, so we can not be pulled back into the former horrible pit. Rather, we are imperishable, we grow in ascending paths, shining brighter and brighter till the perfect day of the Lord. Psalms 37:23-24 CSB says, “A person’s steps are established by the Lord, and he takes pleasure in his way. Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord supports him with his hand.”
This shows our saving power is not of us, but by God's right hand power and His steadfast love that endures forever. St. Paul said it better, “Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us. We are afflicted in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed.”(2 Corinthians 4:7-9 CSB)
The entire psalm 136 tells us that our life is not by our power but by His right hand power and steadfast love that endures forever. “To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: For his mercy endureth for ever:And brought out Israel from among them: For his mercy endureth for ever: With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: For his mercy endureth for ever. To him which led his people through the wilderness: For his mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalm 136:10-12, 16 KJV)
