So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
-John 20:2 NIV
One of the famous quotes of my favorite Saint, Pope St. Leo the great says, “Bear in mind who is your head and of whose body you are a member. Do not forget that you have been rescued from the power of darkness and brought into the light of God's kingdom.” To live a life that bears fruit of the Spirit intels living our lives from the realm of what Christ has done to save us, rather than what we can do to be saved. That is learning daily to live by His grace not by works.
Luke's account of the resurrection was that the angel told the women who came to the tomb, “Why seek ye the living among the dead?” (Luke 24:5 KJV). Even though we have been raised to a new life with Christ, we still in many ways seek the living among the dead by living by our works and not by grace. John chose the name used in our theme, “ disciple, the one Jesus loved” by faith for He knows it is not about his love for Jesus but by His love for us.
I John 4:19 NKJV says, “We love Him because He first loved us.” His love, grace, goodness compels us and not the other way round. Adam and Eve were not bothered by their nakedness until after they tried to depend on works and not on grace, hence fell short of grace without which no one can bear fruit. That is why Romans 7:4 NIV said, “So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.”
WE PRAY FOR THE GRACE TO LIVE BY HIS GRACE IN JESUS NAME AMEN!
THANK YOU JESUS!
