WALK IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

Ephesians 6:14 ESV

The breastplate of righteousness is part of the armor of God which St. Paul mentioned in the Bible. The breastplate helps to protect the vital organs such as the heart , lungs, liver, etc. Here St. Paul compares it to righteousness which protects the heart from the deceitfulness of the enemy. One of the major schemes of the enemy is deceit. He used it against Adam and Eve, and is playing the same trick on the hearts of many today.

The Lord in John 8:44, called him the father of lies. That is why Proverbs 4:23 ESV says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” The enemy wants to gain control of the heart , making us believe we can be right with God by our own works, by keeping the law. But law was weakened by the flesh, hence no man can achieve right standing with God by the law.

That is why our theme tells us to put on the breastplate of righteousness, be righteousness conscious, a gift we received by our new birth in Christ, Colossians 2:6 ESV says, “ Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,” We received Christ Jesus not by what we have done right, but by what God has done, hence we should live by what God has done. It is by living by what God has done that we can live right. (Galatians 5:16)
