WE ARE DEFINED BY CHRIST, OUR HEAD
“For we are members of his body.”
Ephesians 5:30 NIV
The fact that you feel heat when you dip your finger into a cup of hot coffee does not define your finger. You can simply pull it out. In the same way, because we experience the effects of fallenness in this fallen world does not mean that we are fallen or defined by what surrounds us. We are members of the body of Christ, and Christ, our Head, is the One who defines us.”As He is, so are we in this world.”
Our circumstances may attempt to tell us who we are. Difficult seasons may try to give us an identity. Pain, opposition, darkness, and trials may surround us—but they do not define us. Christ defines us! Just as we can pull our finger out of hot coffee, because it is a member of our body. Our Lord Jesus Christ, who sent us into this world, is faithful to make a way for us through every difficult situation, because we are the members of His body.
For Scripture says: “God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
(1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV)
Beloved, you are a member of Christ's body. The Head will never abandon His body. Christ feeds us, cares for us, leads us, and makes a way for us. “After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—”
Ephesians 5:29 NIV
You may be in this world, but you are defined by Christ—not by the fallen conditions around you. As He is, so are you in this world!
